Sustainability University Inititative

University of Iowa President Sally Mason, in an April 22, 2008, Earth Day address to the UI Faculty Senate, announced a strengthened emphasis on sustainability in the UI's use of energy and materials and in its academic focus, creating five new faculty positions, a new sustainability office, and campus committees to monitor the UI's sustainability practices and policies.

UI Water Sustainability Initiative

The University of Iowa has established a Water Sustainability Initiative to expand its existing strengths in interdisciplinary research on water.

UI Office of Sustainability

The University of Iowa Office of Sustainability coordinates and develops programs to promote sustainability and resource conservation. Its programs and initiatives include students, faculty, staff, and members of the community.

UI Conservation

The University of Iowa is an emerging  Temp Photo leader in renewable energy strategies and sustainability practices. From renewable fuels to wind power and sustainable design, Iowa is pioneering the way in current efforts toward an energy-independent future. All members of the UI community can contribute to energy conservation. Informed faculty, staff and students know that energy conservation has multiple benefits – saving energy, money, and the environment.

UI Facilities Management

For the fifth year in a row Buildings magazine has ranked University of Iowa Facilities Management among the 10 most proactive and innovative infrastructure managers in the nation. For the previous three years the UI was the only university listed among the top 10. This year the University of California-San Diego joins the list.
